Access route

From the car-park at Terme di Valdieri an unsurfaced road (closed to traffic) leads up to the Valasco plain, about an hour's walk, where you will find the refuge of the same name, a former royal lodge belonging to the House of Savoy.

Access on foot from France

There are two possibilities, from Saint Martin Vesubie or from Isola 2000.

  • Saint-Martin-Vésubie can be reached from Nice, from here you can drive up to Boréon and in summer it is possible to reach the car-park above the village on the way to the col di Salèse about 1670m. Leave the car and carry on up to the pass (2031 m.), from here follow the road down, dropping around 50m in height until you come across a wide path off to the right leading to Lac Nègre. Shortly before reaching the lake, at a bend in the path a second path leads off to the right climbing up past the French Fremamorta lakes to the Colle di Fremamorta (2615 m.), about 3 hrs walk from the car-park. From here walk down past the Italian Fremamorta lakes, to climb slightly up to the Colletto Valasco and then down again following a wide path to a height of 2120m where you pick up a narrower path down to the upper Valasco plain and from here it is 10 min to the Royal Hunting Lodge, 2 hrs from the the Colle di Fremamorta.

  • You can get to Isola 2000 from Nice, Gap or Digne. A path starts here that in 2 hrs will bring you to the Bassa del Druos (2628 m) passing by Terre Rouge lake. From the pass, drop down past the Valscura lakes and from here to the upper Valasco plain and the Royal Hunting Lodge (4 hrs from Isola 2000).
