The lodge was used in the past by the kings of Italy as a holiday home and as a base for their hunts. It was built on an open alluvial plain in the middle of an interesting high altitude peat bog, the area is rich in lakes and streams. The plain is dominated by Monte Matto an imposing peak of over three thousand metres.
It is a square shaped building with the various rooms opening onto an internal courtyard. Two turrets rise on the ends of the front wall.
At present it is used as a refuge; it can be reached after about an hour's walk along the old military road or along the footpath that the kings had built.
As you enter you see the bar and reception with a lounge where photos are on display showing the story of the lodge. The bedrooms are on each side of the courtyard, some double or triple bedded with bathrooms, others with sleeping platforms for more numerous groups for a total of 45 beds. At the end of the courtyard is the kitchen which specializes particularly in Occitan dishes, rediscovering local traditional cuisine and cooking our own desserts.
